This policy explains how YachtSoft handles personal information. It is intended to support transparency under the Seychelles Data Protection Act 2023 and, where applicable, the GDPR and UK GDPR. It is not a claim of formal legal certification.

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to:

  • YachtSoft Pro, distributed under Rhino package name YachtSoft;
  • YachtSoft Designer, distributed under package name yachtsoft-designer;
  • licence and Pro-trial activation through YachtSoft's secure online licence system;
  • support and sales email;
  • the YachtSoft website, including standard hosting and security logs; and
  • purchase and transactional services once those services are enabled.

The related purchase and licence rules are in the Terms of Sale and Software Licence Agreement.

3. Local-first design

  • Your design work stays on your computer. YachtSoft does not upload Rhino models, geometry, project files, weight ledgers, hydrostatics or bill-of-materials data as part of normal software operation.
  • No plug-in usage telemetry. The shipping plug-in does not send crash reports, module-usage statistics or behavioural analytics to YachtSoft.
  • Licence activation only. Routine plug-in network contact is limited to information needed for licence and trial issue, validation, renewal, suspension and abuse prevention.
  • No sale of personal data. YachtSoft does not sell, rent or trade personal information for marketing.
  • No behavioural advertising or profiling. The launch website uses no advertising or cross-site tracking technology.

4. Information we do not collect

During normal use, YachtSoft does not collect or upload:

  • Rhino .3dm files, Grasshopper definitions, hull geometry or panel data;
  • design parameters, hydrostatic results, scantling outputs, weight data or bill-of-materials content;
  • the contents of a selected project directory;
  • project, vessel or client names, unless you voluntarily include them in an enquiry or email to YachtSoft; or
  • full payment-card numbers.

McNeel provides Rhino and Grasshopper under separate terms. YachtSoft does not control McNeel's own accounts, cloud services or telemetry.

5. Information the Rhino plug-in processes

5.1 Local information on your computer

YachtSoft stores settings and licence state locally so they survive software updates.

PlatformTypical local folder
Windows%APPDATA%\YachtSoft\
macOS~/Library/Application Support/YachtSoft/

Local information may include:

InformationPurpose
Terms version, acceptance flag and UTC timeRecord acceptance of the software terms
Project-root pathRemember the folder you selected for projects and reports
Interface and workflow preferencesPreserve product configuration
Licence key, expiry, trial state and feature flagsValidate the edition and support permitted offline use between checks

Sensitive licence fields are stored in locally obfuscated files. Obfuscation is not strong encryption and is intended only to deter casual inspection.

Deleting local YachtSoft files removes local preferences and cached licence information. It does not erase server-side trial or activation records and cannot create a second trial on the same computer.

5.2 Online licence and trial activation

When a customer starts a trial or activates a paid licence, the plug-in connects over HTTPS to YachtSoft's secure online licence system. The information transmitted may include:

InformationPurpose
Licence key or trial tokenIssue or validate the entitlement
Product identifierApply Designer or Pro features
Software version or buildCompatibility and support
Machine-related identifierEnforce two computers per paid licence and one Pro trial per computer

This information is used to issue, validate, renew, suspend or revoke licences and to prevent abuse. Licence validation is not used to read customer design files.

6. Information collected through the website and email

6.1 Website enquiries

When you send a trial, licence, demo, studio or general enquiry, we collect your name, email, optional message, enquiry type, selected package and licence term, source page and a submission identifier. Supabase stores the enquiry and queued team notifications. Resend sends notifications separately to Phil's YachtSoft inbox and Iain's team inbox; their email providers process that correspondence. These details let the team respond and confirm compatibility and next steps.

A receipt confirms storage of your enquiry, not email delivery. Notifications may be retried if delivery is interrupted. Submitting an enquiry does not charge you, issue a licence or activate a trial. We do not automatically send an acknowledgement email to the visitor.

You can also email mail.yachtsoft@gmail.com directly. Do not include model files, licence keys, client-confidential material or sensitive personal information unless necessary for support and you are authorised to share it.

6.2 Website hosting and security logs

The enquiry website is hosted by Vercel. Standard hosting and security records may include IP address, browser user-agent, requested page, timestamp, response code and technical error information. These records are used to serve, secure and troubleshoot the website.

6.3 Existing orders and future checkout

The enquiry website does not accept new online orders or process payments. Information about an existing purchase or licence is handled separately from this form; contact YachtSoft with questions about it. Any future automated checkout will require an updated explanation of its payment and fulfilment processing. YachtSoft does not store full card numbers.

8. Retention

Enquiry and notification records are stored so the team can respond and check notification processing. The website has no automatic deletion job or fixed expiry for those records. Email correspondence and provider logs are retained according to the relevant account settings; this policy does not promise an unverified fixed retention period.

Contact mail.yachtsoft@gmail.com with questions or requests concerning information stored about you. The enquiry form accepts text only; please leave confidential model or project information out of it.

10. International transfers

Current and future service providers may process information outside Seychelles, including in the United States and European Economic Area. Where applicable law requires transfer safeguards, YachtSoft will rely on the contractual or statutory mechanisms offered by the relevant provider and required by law.

11. Cookies and similar technology

The Rhino plug-in does not use browser cookies.

The public enquiry website does not intentionally use advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies. Essential platform or security technology may be used by the hosting provider to deliver and protect the service. A consent mechanism will be introduced before any non-essential cookies are enabled where the law requires it.

12. Security

YachtSoft uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including HTTPS for the website and activation service, access controls for provider accounts and local obfuscation of cached licence information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Customers are responsible for protecting their computers, backups, email accounts and licence keys.

13. Your rights

Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may have rights to:

  • access personal information YachtSoft holds about you;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • request deletion, subject to licence enforcement and legally required retention;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive portable information where applicable;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • complain to an applicable supervisory authority.

For Seychelles matters, the relevant authority is the Information Commission of Seychelles. EEA and UK users may also contact their local data-protection authority.

Email mail.yachtsoft@gmail.com with subject Privacy request. YachtSoft may need to verify identity or licence ownership before responding and aims to respond within 30 days.

14. Children

YachtSoft is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 16. YachtSoft does not knowingly collect children's personal information. Contact YachtSoft if you believe a child has supplied personal information so the matter can be investigated and, where appropriate, deleted.

15. Changes to this policy

The version and last-updated date identify this policy. YachtSoft will update the policy when enquiry processing changes or before introducing automated checkout or optional product diagnostics. Material changes will be published on yachtsoft.app, and fresh consent will be requested where required for new consent-based processing.

16. Governing law and disputes

This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Seychelles, subject to mandatory privacy or consumer rights that apply in another jurisdiction. Disputes should first be raised through the contact below and may then follow the applicable dispute provisions in the Terms.
